CommunityLend Launched: January 11th, 2010

Submitted by Dan on Mon, 01/11/2010 - 23:23

CommunityLend has officially launched.

More on this from me tomorrow evening (Tuesday).

For now, check out CommunityLend's front page or P2P-Lending's coverage.

It looks like it is Ontario only, but as we read before, it looks like they'll soon have approval for a few other provinces in Canada based on their legal filings.

I tried to register as a borrower in Ontario (which qualifies for their services) and with "Good" credit (I really don't know where I stand, it should be good, but my history is limited), and I got a cryptic error:

"

There was a problem registering; please correct the following issues before resubmitting:

  • Requested role is not included in the list

"

I didn't doubt there wouldn't some growing pains :)

Eventually, with a different browser, I was able to get registered. I suppose some browser plugin was causing the issue. Their user agreements are in the annoying 5 line long boxes, ridiculous for a (needlessly?) long document. I'll fully register once I read through the agreement (well, I agreed to the first to signup, now I have to agree to yet another as a borrower).

1. One year Term - $7500.00 Loan request

Submitted by Michael (not verified) on Thu, 07/21/2011 - 09:04.

Seeking a $7500.00 unsecured, one year loan to be paid monthly (and probably sooner than one year). Interest terms to be agreed to but i am willing to consider all options.

Relocation loan to set up in Calgary, Alberta to assume a position that pays $88K + incentive / yr.

Advise when able.

2. small loan for ads for new biz - online ordering for websites

Submitted by iEatVictoria.ca (not verified) on Sun, 11/14/2010 - 21:05.

Hello,

Just built a new web site http://www.ieatvictoria.ca which provides on line ordering for restaurants in Victoria, BC. I am a out of work web developer and built the system myself.

Many large corporate restaurants already have online web ordering for their customers and more and more people are turning to the web for goods and services than ever before and ignore the phone book.

iEatVictoria.ca provides online web ordering for smaller restaurants so they can keep with the large corporate chains.
For only a small set up fee and a pay per order contract smaller restaurants can have the same online ordering services that larger corporate chains now enjoy.

It is an idea whose time has come and is sure to be a success.

There are a number of restaurants already signing up and on the website now!

What is needed is a small loan to pay for an advertising campaign. I live on a small disability pension so money is tight. But my work ethic and desire to succeed are in plentiful supply.

What I have in mind is ads in Victoria News, flyers, walking sandwich boards and perhaps radio spots. After a few weeks of advertising victorians will come to the web site and order food for delivery or take out - its easy - see all their favourite restaurants at one spot - order food with just a mouse click!

A $5000 loan for ads and other domains would ensure success of this business; the plan is to take this online ordering to many other cities and it is sure to be huge success.

Help this hard working skilled but out of work entrepreneur find success - your loan can make it happen

If interested I will supply a full business plan to any interested parties.

Look forward to hearing from you.

4. Why don't they get a prospectus?

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 10/25/2010 - 21:57.

It seems to me that it is not the government's fault, but communitylend's. Why don't they get a prospectus? Proser.com and all the other US based P2P have them...

7. The lender criteria is ridiculous....

Submitted by Annoyed in Canada (not verified) on Wed, 03/17/2010 - 20:56.

The lending criteria is ridiculous. I am in the top 10% of income earners in my province, and I am not even close to the requirements set out as a lender.
I guess I will keep lending through my b.s. account in the states through prosper.

What a disappointment.

Well, with only accredited investor who can lend, this site is going to die out VERY SOON. (Read the qualification of accredited investor. You have to be a BANK, or someone who is VERY HIGH INCOME, or have LOTS OF MONEY. Come on .. I guess institutional investor with unlimited lending limit may find it interesting but then again, I can foresee a very high default rate on this. Trust me, I have been in the lending business for over 12 years, I can see it happen.)

OK, that's my 2 cents. I agree with the previous 2 posts that it is not a true P2P lending site. But that's not their fault, it is just our government.
