All Is Too Quiet On The Canadian (Regulatory) Front - An UnUpdate of P2P Lending
Interesting CommunityLend Blog Discussions
I posted a comment over on CommunityLend's Blog:
Well, I can say, from an individual perspective that doesn't quite have the same interest in their success, that Communitylend does seem to be working to get their necessary approvals and such.
I'm predicting that it's very much of the "government sends you a bunch of stuff, you answer within a week, they get back to you a month later just to say that they've received your response" kind of run-around.
I think the company is there technically (ie: backend and frontend software), after all, it's not a technically difficult idea, but we'll see what they've been spending their spare development time on eventually.
Rob,
I guess that you've been following the whole Bell Wholesaler Throttling & Copyright Amendment dealio? :)
Rob did have some very interesting comments:
"Maybe it’s time to be asking: What is wrong with the regulatory process that such an idea can not move forward?"
&
"“Government stalling financial tools in troubled economy” might make for a good headline in the Toronto Sun. A single persuasive article posted to Digg or Slashdot would no doubt clog the regulators mailboxes."
Though I do take a bit of issue with him thinking that the Toronto Sun is a reputable newspaper, he's definitely on to something.
As I stated, no doubt has he been following the recent Copyright Amendment Proposal by the Cons and Bell's Throttling of 3rd Party DSL Providers, which has resulted in those types of results. I've already sent an email to the OSC a week ago (with no response yet), but I might be stepping up things in a bit with them and other regulators, but to be honest, the Throttling of DSL Providers thing will take up my time for now.
IOU Central & BDRVM
Still nothing on the BDRVM's French Pages of Décisions. I also noticed that they don't even list things in chronological order, but alas, still nothing. I'll send them an email as well, I thought their meeting was back in May or something. What was that I was saying about the government being slow to respond to things?
The Microlending.ca Final Thought
I'm no libertarian, but this is pretty terrible stuff. The point of these regulators is to protect the public, not make things mindlessly slow or preserve the status quo.
Update:
Communitylend states:
"The regulatory interaction is actually quite intense and regular, so less of the run around, and more like how can we make this work, kind of thing."
