Remember That IOU Central Clone I Was Talking About?

Submitted by Dan on Wed, 04/09/2008 - 02:04

Well, looks like it has launched at http://www.ivorexinc.com. Looks like it is the clone site that I was talking about. Not even all of the aspects of IOU Central have been changed, such as references and the Youtube video.

Kinda funny how they change the name of the company, but not the original mailing address of IOU Central. There are also a bunch of other references to IOU Central still in place.

The WHOIS information for the domain does point to an individual in Taiwan, which I suspected before. Really weird. No one on the IOU Central team looks like the kind of person that would have any Taiwanese connections...

I doubt that this clone is actually in any way affiliated with IOU Central. But rather some type of scam (I'd imagine).

1. I'll be starting work in

I'll be starting work in June after graduation, and will be looking to take advantage of market conditions to start building my retirement savings. As I have a more or less perfect credit rating with a $10000 line of (unsecured, albeit relatively high interest as I've been an unemployed student until now) credit already, it may very well be that the interest rate on the roughly $6000 I wish to borrow will be higher than what I could get from a bank.

They seem to have removed their index file for some reason ...

4. Ya, they must have caught on

Ya, they must have caught on :)

I only found out about them because they showed up in my referral logs.

The "complete" backup that I made of their site doesn't seem to work (probably because of the dynamic PHP and such). But the directories that are present are still interesting enough to poke around in my opinion.

I just can't figure out what they were really up to though...

5. My speculation: aside from

My speculation: aside from the basic phishing scams, they could also be used as a front for money laundering. I met a few people with concern on this issue (ie drug money) when the discussion of p2p lending pops up every now and then.
